Rénovation d'ampleur: the whole-house renovation grant in France
What is a rénovation d'ampleur?
Rénovation d'ampleur means a large-scale, whole-house renovation. It's the route of MaPrimeRénov' (the state energy-renovation grant) for projects that combine several kinds of work, and it's also called the parcours accompagné, the "accompanied route". It pays a share of the cost when the work lifts the home's DPE (energy performance rating) by at least two classes. It's for a main home only.
Which homes qualify for a rénovation d'ampleur?
Before any work, the home must be rated E, F or G on its DPE. The finished project must gain at least two classes, and it must include at least two kinds of insulation work (roof, walls, floors or windows). The house also has to be at least 15 years old.
An energy audit (a survey that sets out the work and the rating you should reach) draws up the plan, and every firm on the project must hold RGE status, the state's approved-installer label. Check your current DPE certificate and the year the house was built first, because a home that's already rated D or better can't use this route at all.
How much does the whole-house route pay?
The grant is a percentage of the works cost before tax, set by your income band. Household size and taxable income decide the band, and the MaPrimeRénov' entry explains the colours.
- Very modest incomes: 80%
- Modest incomes: 60%
- Intermediate incomes: 45%
- Higher incomes (the "rose" band): 10%
The percentage applies to works up to 30,000 EUR when the home gains two classes, or 40,000 EUR when it gains three or more. Other grants such as CEE (energy-supplier grants) can be added, up to a cap that depends on the band. Ask your adviser for the sum on your own plan.
Which two advisers does a rénovation d'ampleur need before any devis?
Two people come before any devis (written quote). The first step is an appointment with a France Rénov' adviser, compulsory since 24 February 2026. The project then needs a Mon Accompagnateur Rénov' (MAR), an approved adviser who runs the whole job with you. MaPrimeRénov' covers part of that fee.
Sign no devis until the grant is confirmed. Work ordered before approval isn't paid. The Éco-PTZ (a zero-interest renovation loan) can fund what's left, but it's also for a main home only.
Which work now needs the whole-house route?
Since 1 September 2026 this is the only MaPrimeRénov' route for insulation, windows, heat-recovery ventilation (VMC double flux), solar and heat pump water heaters and wood stoves. The single-measure route (par geste) now covers mainly air-to-water and ground-source heat pumps. Homes rated F or G keep wider access to single-measure grants until 31 December 2027.
If you only want new windows, MaPrimeRénov' no longer pays for them alone. CEE still pays towards replacement windows that meet its insulation standard.
Can you claim for a second home on the Riviera?
No. The whole-house route needs your principal residence (résidence principale), and a holiday home never qualifies, whatever your income. If you're not living in the house yet, you must move in within a year of the final payment request.
That makes full-time residence the deciding question. A second-home owner who moves here for good can claim once the house is the main home. Until then, the help that doesn't ask where you live is CEE and the reduced TVA (French VAT) rate.
